An opportunity to share resources and success stories in the handicraft field: MyHandScraft Forum in Palermo

On September the 4th, the MyHandScraft Forum, first multiplier event organised in Italy within the project MyHandScraft – Migrants’ Hands and Skills to Create a Future Track, was held at Moltivolti, in Palermo.

Originally scheduled for the end of February 2020, the event had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, and therefore it was rescheduled by CESIE with a view to present to the public the core project’s activities (the local workshops) shortly before their launch.

Participants in the event were mostly migrant and local handcrafters and adult educators working with migrant people.

The first part of the event was dedicated to present the project’s objectives, and the outputs developed in the first phase of the project, i.e. the State of the Art Report (O1), the E-Learning platform (O2), and the E-Educational Programme (O3).

In preparation of the launch of a series of local workshops aimed at testing the programme at the end of September, CESIE presented the contents of the E-Educational Programme, collecting some subscriptions by participants attending.

During the event, migrant and local handcrafters were invited to intervene, in order to share some success stories in the field of handicraft, and their expectations with regards to the upcoming project’s activities: Giulia Falletta, handcrafter working with leather, Amadou Diallo, representative of the handicraft business Giocherenda, e Shapoor Safari, Afghan handcrafter expert in working with wood.

Later, participants took part in a round-table discussion on the needs to be considered in order to ensure a fruitful exchange of skills and techniques in the handicraft field, on how to use e-learning to facilitate the exchange and cooperation within the handicraft sector, and on the potential of art as a tool to ease the exchange of experience among participants with different cultural backgrounds.

The event was followed by a refreshment during which participants continued to exchange on the addressed topics, and to interact with each other.
